Christmas Celebration with a purpose
IIHM Global Campus, Kolkata, truly came alive on December 22, 2025 as the hospitality institute hosted its much-loved Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Celebration — an evening wrapped in joy, warmth and the real meaning of the season. Students, faculties and guests gathered to celebrate Christmas the IIHM way: with heart, purpose and togetherness.
The ceremony was graced by Sumanji Tiwari, general manager, Vivanta Kolkata; Dr Suborno Bose, Chairman, IIHM Worldwide; and Sanjukta Bose, Director of IIHM Kolkata, and other dignitaries, whose presence added to the charm of the evening.
Children from underprivileged communities joined the IIHM family for an evening filled with games, smiles and shared happiness. It was a beautiful reminder that Christmas is as much about giving as it is about celebrating.
Chairman Dr. Suborno Bose summed it up perfectly, saying, “At IIHM, every celebration is an opportunity to lead with purpose. Lighting a tree is not just about festivity — it is a reminder that the future of hospitality lies in nurturing the planet, empowering young minds, and celebrating responsibly.”
What made this year special was the Christmas tree itself. Designed by first-year IIHM students, the tree was created entirely from waste materials — from food delivery boxes and wrappers to bottles and cartons — turning a festive symbol into a powerful message on sustainability and mindful living. The choice of materials is deliberate. Food delivery packaging speaks of speed over sustainability. Cosmetic bottles and alcohol containers point towards aspirational consumption and image-driven markets. Cigarette boxes and wrappers reveal habits that harm both personal and planetary health. Together, these materials transform the Christmas tree – traditionally a symbol of joy, abundance, and celebration-into a mirror reflecting the darker side of abundance itself.
The evening also saw the unveiling of the Young Chef Olympiad 2026 T-shirt, making it a celebration of talent, responsibility and festive spirit — all rolled into one memorable IIHM Christmas.
