IIHM Kolkata Celebrates Teachers’ Day Awards 2026
The International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM), Kolkata, celebrated its annual IIHM Teachers’ Day Awards on 12 September 2026, honouring nearly 200 exceptional school teachers for their contribution to education, mentorship and nation-building. The theme for this year was — Empowering educators in the age of AI – Education sets you free, Now AI gives you wings.
Held at the IIHM Global Campus, the celebration brought together teachers and Principals from ICSE, CBSE and West Bengal government schools across Kolkata and different parts of West Bengal. Educators from Howrah, Konnagar, Barasat, Siliguri, Naihati, Chandannagar, Sonarpur, Shyamnagar, Kalyani, Rishra, Barrackpore, Kharagpur, Kalaikunda, Tribeni, Andal, Durgapur, Ukhra, Noorpur, Dankuni, Rajarhat, New Town, Salt Lake, Dakhineswar, Joka and several other locations participated in the special celebration.
The Teachers’ Day Awards recognise educators who exemplify dedication to student mentorship, academic excellence, character building and holistic development. Each school was invited to nominate one outstanding teacher through its Principal. The nominated educators were felicitated with a Certificate of Excellence in Education, while both the teacher and the Principal were honoured at the ceremony, celebrating the vital partnership between school leadership and teaching excellence.
The Kolkata celebration was conducted in two sessions—morning and evening, creating an opportunity for a large gathering of educators to come together, celebrate their achievements and share ideas on the changing landscape of education.
The evening session was graced by Consul General Xu Wei, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata, as the Guest of Honour, adding a special international dimension to the celebration.

Teachers as Nation Builders
Addressing the gathering, Dr Suborno Bose, Founder-Chairman and Chief Mentor, IIHM and Chairman, Indismart Group Worldwide, highlighted the profound role teachers play in shaping the future of India.
“Without teachers, there would be no future. You are not just teaching your students; you are creating a whole generation—the future doctors, pilots, chefs, IT professionals and leaders of India. You are the nation builders, and the country needs you.”
Dr Bose also spoke about the rapidly evolving role of Artificial Intelligence in education and encouraged teachers to embrace technology as an enabler in the classroom.
“AI is just a tool. AI is your assistant; it will never replace teachers. What AI can do is make teachers more powerful—helping them save time, improve presentations and focus more on what truly matters: educating and shaping the next generation.”
AI and the Future of Education
A key highlight of the Kolkata Teachers’ Day celebration was a special AI literacy session for teachers and students, led by Prof. CS Nitin Chaturvedi and Shweta Arora Sehgal. The session introduced educators to Knowledge Capsules and Indismart AI, a story-led approach that makes AI and knowledge acquisition more engaging and accessible. The initiative, by Rajeev Poddar and Dr Suborno Bose in association with Indismart AI Technologies, reflects Dr Bose’s vision of advancing AI-powered education while keeping human connection at its core.
Dr Bose also introduced the Indismart School Lesson Plan Creator, an AI-powered tool designed to simplify lesson planning, organise classroom activities and help teachers create more engaging learning experiences.
A Celebration Hosted by Students
The Teachers’ Day celebration also gave IIHM students an opportunity to express their gratitude to the teachers who shape and inspire young minds.
Following the felicitation ceremonies, the teachers were hosted for lunch and dinner at the IIHM Global Campus. The elaborate spreads were prepared and served entirely by IIHM students, giving the students an opportunity to showcase their hospitality, culinary and service skills while honouring the educators.
The IIHM Teachers’ Day Awards 2026 in Kolkata was therefore not just a felicitation ceremony but a celebration of teachers, education, mentorship and the evolving future of learning. As educators continue to shape the aspirations and character of young Indians, IIHM reaffirmed its commitment to recognising their contribution and supporting them with new-age tools that complement, rather than replace, the human touch in education.
